Turning Pages

As an avid reader, I love books. I love physical books. I am not a fan of e-reads. I find comfort in holding a book in my hands and turning the pages one by one - anxiously looking forward to what the next page will hold.

At my last senior recognition ceremony, I read a book titled Be You to our students. While I had the images and words from the book on a screen for all to see, I still held the book and turned each page as I read. There is something about the pause when you actually turn a page that makes the message so much stronger.

Turning pages is also a great metaphor for life.

High school seniors turn the page as they close the chapter on their K-12 education and begin their next chapter of employment, entrepreneurship, enlistment, and/or education.

College graduates prepare to enter new careers turning from students to employees.

Adult workforce students complete their credential programs, and turn the page moving from learner to technician.

And last year, I turned the page from full-time educator to retirement and new opportunities and adventures.

What an exciting time it is when we get to turn pages in life! I hope that you too will turn a page. Because as Oprah Winfrey once said, “A world of possibilities awaits you. Keep turning the page.”
